I am using Ubuntu 12.04lts, I have been trying to create a hotspot to a wireless network so as to give internet access while at the same time getting internet access from another wireless device. I have searched around the internet and all methods I have seen seem only to involve two different media hotpsot creation eg LAN->pc->wifi. SO I was asking for a simple solution to this.

I thaught it would be easy seeing as Windows has connectify-me to solve that issue.

OK, I think that you need to check the default gateway...

Wait... are you trying to bridge two wireless interfaces? Can they both inject? This is really interesting!

Can you post your configurations? (commands and results)

Okay, so I downloaded and installed the access point mod hotspot package and started the process using the strings below:

sudo add-apt-repository ppa:nilarimogard/webupd8
sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get install ap-hotspot


sudo ap-hotspot configure //I set wlan0 as the internet input and wlan0 as the wifi hotspot output.

sudo ap-hotspot start//to start, I get an error here says I have to turn off wifi to create hotspot. if I go on it turns of


sudo ap-hotspot stop//to end


NOTE: I am have internal wlan card only.

hmmm... are you sure that you searched enough about this issue? I am asking this because I see lots of comments about this tool (especially with Ubuntu)

It seems impossible to use the same wlan0 to recieve internet from a hotspot and create your own hotspot at the same time. I have searched every site I know, The only question I have left is how comes then Windows can do this with connectify-me but Ubuntu can't?
