I used Autodesk 3DS Max for that. Photoshop was used for animating the frames in GIF.

Looks interesting, you should try and sharpen up the piece, I see some blurry parts.

It took about 10 minutes to complete. The most challenging part in this is to make it a perfect loop.
I just did one gradient with 5 colors first, then liquify to mess with it. Then just animated it to look like a sphere. I'll try to filter it some more to improve it.
