Why do people deface completely random sites? They never did anything to you so why harm them? I can understand backdooring them or using the sites as a foothold for your shell but actually defacing the site is not cool. Do you have any reasoning behind defacing random sites?

Most people that do it mean to get hype out of it. To become known. They stack their ammunition up, and post their shitty defaces on zone-h,twitter,facebook ect..

I do it cause I'm bored. But, normally one or two brings me back to normal. I hardly do them anymore cause whats the purpose unless it's FBI.gov or CNN. /shrug

Same. There is a lot more merit to being able to target a site and deface it. As for doing it to completely random sites, I think it is pathetic unless there's some form of benefit (other than boosting your e-fame).

I would only deface targets, not randoms. but it would be better to take security off of the admin panel or copy database credentials and set up phpmyadmin on your own server, and change the admins password hash, email, etc, to your own and log in with his name, along with deleting random shit from the database and crippling random files, and deleting any database backups from the actual server. Defacement is almost never the answer IMO.

I tend to find myself asking the exact same question. There's so much more to be had in the payload rather than just throwing up a basic HTML page.

Also, for an off-topic subject, you realize XMPP is just the protocol Jabber/exploit.im etc uses, right?
