I've had pretty bad experiences with depression in general. I went through it at a very young age compared to most (I was in the third grade), and thankfully I never thought about suicide or cutting or anything like that.

Suicide, to me, has always been illogical. Maybe because i've never allowed myself to never go back down to the dark hole that depression is, but I always know there is more to this world than I currently know. I know that feeling 'trapped' is just me wanting for the future to come. With the future comes change, and hopefully good change. Suicide ends all possibility. No new experiences, no freedom from the sadness felt at the time, no chance for happiness. You won't die happy, you'll die sad and then all your sensory ends as well. People think suicide stops the sadness but it stops everything. My motive has always been, if I am feeling down, drag myself through all the shit and keep going until stuff gets better. If i'm tired, I don't stay up thinking about stuff, I sleep and wake up clear minded.

I've always found suicide illogical. There are some times I can understand it, if you have a terminal illness or are in extreme pain, but 99% of the time it is completely illogical. It goes against everything human, it completely goes against self-preservation and is almost always a permanent solution to a temporary problem.

Probably 99% of the time there is an illness or extreme pain(maybe extreme emotional pain)

I've had multiple depressive periods over the course of my life, in patchy sequences all the way from second/third grade to tenth. I've learned to drag myself through it, even if not motivated by anything by simply forcing yourself to get out of bed in the morning, and forcing your eyes shut in the night.

Another little trick I use is smiling. Usually you smile because your mind is happy, but if you smile when unhappy, your mind will adapt to the expression, and think you're happy, which in turn makes you feel happy.

It is true that suicide goes against all biological instincts, which makes it illogical. However, also animals are known to sometimes commit suicide, so there has to be something in our biology that enables it.

True. They are either trying to get attention or are just doing it on the spur of the moment.

two years ago a friend I've known since elementary school hung himself.

Completely out of the blue and no note. My friends are still speculating on his reasons... Whether it was drug addiction, depression, or murder, we're not sure. The woman he was living with had her previous husband die from, "suicide" as well. I totally think she's a black widow, but not many others are convinced. it really tore my friends apart mentally and emotionally...

If you compare it to drug users, it could be argued that it should not be your choice. I mean, in a sense, with that logic anyone could do anything to themselves. There needs to be a lined drawn somewhere.
