Although I know its a mainstream anime, Code Geass is a good anime and Angel Beats. ( IMO )

Never seen Angel Beats but I can vouch that Code Geass is pretty good.

I recommend watching Angel Beats. Its short series of only 12 ep ( from what I remember ). Has a nice storyline to it and it drags you in. Highly recommended.
