[Review] Great Teacher Onizuka #1
[Image: 11460l.jpg]

Synopsis:
Onizuka is a reformed biker gang leader who has his sights set on an honorable new ambition: to become the world's greatest teacher... for the purpose of meeting sexy high school girls. Okay, so he's mostly reformed.

However, strict administrators and a class of ruthless delinquents stand between Onizuka and his goal and they will use any means, however illegal or low, to drive the new teacher away. Perfect, because Onizuka's methods won't be found in any teaching manual; he cares about the difference between legal and illegal activities about as much as he cares for the age difference between himself and a high school girl.

So get ready for math that doesn't add up, language you'd be slapped for using, and biology that would make a grown man blush... unless of course, you're the Great Teacher Onizuka.

When I first saw this on MAL, I wasn't sure if I should watch it or not. A biker that wants to go to highschool to be a teacher so he can chase girls in skirts and torture his students, no way I thought. Boy, would I have regretted it if I didn't watch this anime. I was too busy thinking of what would happen then what the plot was actually about: a teacher going to highschool and teaches kids life lessons. When I finally knew what it was about, I stopped looking at the bad parts of it and finally enjoyed the anime as much as I could.

The story is very well done. It's about a group of troublesome highschool students that want to get rid of their new teacher with their skills or traits. But when the new teacher arrives and is quite hard to get rid of, the students never expected their plans to go wrong. That's about the main plot/idea of the story but when they add some plot twists and surprises, it makes the show even more enjoyable and gets the viewer hooked. (Well for me).

The animation is a little old since this was aired around Jun 30, 1999 to Sep 24, 2000 so it's a bit old but if you can put up with it and watch it until the end then I'm sure you won't be disappointed. It kinda has a "classic" and "genuine" feel to it when I watched this show.

The characters were very well done and they fit in with the comedy part of the show to make it more enjoyable. The characters were very original for me, from wimpy, girly characters to smart asses that think the world revolves around them to characters who have a huge grudge on specific people.

Overall, I enjoyed this anime very much. It made me show a wide range of emotions, such as when some parts had me laughing my ass off and some parts that made me tear up. I also really like this anime because it teaches some important life lessons that should be learned. All in all, I'd rate this anime a 9/10.

I've seen it. The dub was awful, all except for Onizuka's voice actor. Ironically, he shares the same voice actor as Spike Spiegel from Cowboy Bebop. Tongue
