I think the word you're looking for is "Newbie" and not "N00b".. Oh, and you may want to take a look in the Tutorial section of this forum. There are a few tutorials there for you already.

For example, selecting parts of an image and then just editing/adding effects to the selected parts. That's called "masking" I think :S
