Is Windows Defender Good Enough? #1
I haven’t had any issues so far, but I’m wondering if it’s better to get a paid service or if I’m safe enough with the default windows option.

Yes it's good enough for most people as an active malware defense. The free version of Malware Bytes is also good to have available for one-off scans.

For the average virus yes Windows defender is good enough, but for one that are hidden even by a average "hacker", no. You can legit use publicly available programs to hide the virus from any detection database.

It's a great question, and while I’m glad to offer some insight, it’s important to consider a few things based on my experience and observations.

I live in a place where most households don’t use macOS or Unix systems. The default PCs and laptops here typically come with Windows pre-installed unless someone specifically opts for an Apple product. In my experience, Windows tends to be more vulnerable to viruses and malware simply because it has the largest user base, which makes it a common target for malicious programs.

That said, malicious programs—whether viruses, malware, or other types of threats—can be developed for any operating system. So, even though macOS and iOS are considered to be more secure than Windows, it doesn't mean they are invulnerable. They have built-in security features, but no system is entirely immune from risks like phishing, malicious apps, or vulnerabilities.

To answer your question: Yes, I would recommend having antivirus protection on your MacBook or iPhone. It's better to have it and not need it than to need it and not have it. While the risk may be lower compared to Windows, it's always wise to take extra precautions to protect your devices and personal information.

Yes, it’s sufficient for most people as an active anti-virus.

yeah, iv heard multiple reputable people says its good enough, and even some paid antivirus companies can be a little scummy or annoying, though i would have some passive monitoring like glasswire for network, and some directory read/write monitoring for sensitive stuff

It's sufficient for anyone, who have common sense and don't go on clicking EVERY GODDAM DOWNLOAD BUTTON,
If you feel paranoid, just do weekly or biweekly Malwarebytes free scans
