Technically the first anime I watched was Pokémon and Yu-Gi-Oh when I was younger, but I was not aware that they were considered anime yet. As I got a little older, the first anime I knowingly watched was Naruto, which is what genuinely got me into the genre. That was additionally how I learned that you could watch subbed anime online in lieu of just the dub version that would run on your television.

This is very much like my own experience. I feel like a lot of us saw "anime" of some sort and just assumed it was like any other cartoon. Then you find out what anime is (normally a show that's in TV but aimed at young teens or something) then boom. You find anime and never look back!

For me it was Tokyo Mew Mew (I think that's what it was called), then I stumbled across the world of anime. Bleach was my first real anime and started me off. Sadly, to this day I never got past episode 300. Maybe one day I will go back and watch it xD
