If you have a crazy gun safe in a dorm room, it's going to attract attention. If it's something with an odor, keep it vacuum sealed. Leave it in a non-descript locked container. Be aware of any dorm inspection policies, keep business off-campus if possible. The best hiding spots blend into surroundings (i.e. stash safes).

I'd assume it's better to be caught by campus security than actual law enforcement. You'll probably get a slap on the wrist and end up speaking to the dean.
