I think this incident itself showed why security was needed

In my view, a one-off Incident that's above and beyond what anyone could ever Imagine happening, does not warrant security on standby.

You've certainly made a few valid points, but I personally don't believe the Oscars attracts a degree of violence to justify security monitoring.

Generally stepping on that stage has multi-million dollar implications, so people behave as such. Wouldn't be surprised if next year they do have security, though.
