If it results in less censorship and freer speech, I'd argue that's a win for everyone. Whether that's his true intention is a separate matter.

The EU has stated they want to censor speech they deem offensive:

When was Twitter ever known for its censorship?  Can't you post literal porn on Twitter with no consequence lol?  I remember Trump and a bunch of bigots felt "targeted" but that's the only example I can think of.

Edit: Did some quick googleing and found that Elon Musk says he wants free speech, but his track record suggests otherwise and that Twitter’s research shows that its algorithm favors conservative views
So who's making these claims exactly?  Stressed

Speaking off Porn, I don't really think is about Free Speech.. As twitter is a public and well known social media having millions of Under Age on it. I think, disallowing Porn is a protection manner for those level of members rather than counting it as preventing free speech.

Ask someone with a different political opinion about this. Twitter 100% censors opposing political  opinions.

It's algorithm does not favor right leaning politics. How many left leaning twitter users do you know that were banned from twitter due to political ideology?

Twitter favouring conservative views is interesting comment. That article isn't saying that left-wing politics are censored more, and it certainly isn't suggesting any less censorship of right-wing comments. Social media algorithms will push content that gets higher levels of engagement (gets people talking, interacting, sharing etc). When they talk about something being "favourable" to algorithms, they're not saying it's content Twitter approves of, it's the content that the algorithm recognises will get more engagement from users. There's nothing like drama and scandalous political comments to get people reacting!

Whether offensive, misleading, or hateful content would be allowed - would be based on the law. What's legal in the USA (where Twitter is based), will definitely differ from the EU. Misinformation, misgendering, or supporting Russia isn't illegal here. I don't use Twitter personally, but I am 100% for free speech.

So what is free speech, considering it's limited by definition depending on where you are?  Twitter is an international platform.  There's no way to regulate it based on every country's law.  "100% for free speech" means what?
It's either you allow everything or you have a policy in place like Twitter currently does.  Thankfully I don't use Twitter either but I'll follow along.

I wonder how he will work within confines of law. Will he go based off US law?
Yeah it'll be interesting to see what he does.

When I was on Twitter, I remember seeing the likes of Candace Owens blowing up constantly, right wingers definitely get a lot of engagement

No porn's not about free speech, I was just highlighting that Twitter and Censorship in general seem to be pretty liberal.

It seems like it does according to Twitter's study: In six out of seven countries — all but Germany — Tweets posted by accounts from the political right receive more algorithmic amplification than the political left when studied as a group.

Regardless of ideology, it is suspicious that anyone would advocate for less freedom of speech. As things stand currently, people are often banned for tweets that are otherwise legal. The fact we're even discussing which ideology is being favored, is example enough. Ignoring American politics for a second, does anyone really want Twitter to have control over any form of political discourse?

100% agreed. I am not here to shout which side is better, simply that I am in favor of freedom of speech. Elon said the same as well.

Seems like Musk himself has an issue with free speech. Look at what he makes his ex-employees sign. Ideology matters because it's the conservatives that think they're under attack in a system that allows their views to go viral. I don't think it's at all "often" that people are being banned, this is news to me. Human error happens, that's moderation everywhere.

Smart move for Elon, he’ll be able to control the masses much more easily now that he had Twitter. It also works in trumps favor as him and trump are buddies, curious to see what he does with the social platform.
