It's been all over our news. I don't know how true all of the claims are, but the UN themselves have admitted it's happening. Apparently some Polish nationalists have been beating up some non-European refugees. To clarify - It's not just people of colour, it's people from non-European descent from what I've been reading. In addition, it sounds like there's been disinformation spread about these groups to allege that they've committed crimes (these claims have not been validated).

They are not Ukrainians, many of them are students from different parts of Africa.
There are non-white Ukrainians but it is a tiny minority.

There are reports of black people having to wait longer in the queues to get into EU nations.

This story has definitely spun into a bit of misinformation. Many of African students ended up at the wrong borders because their own nations gave them bad information of where to go, hence why their treatment at the border was negative. Ukraine has apologized for any racism these students experienced, and their respective African nations have apologized as well. In regards to beating up non european descend people, that's just Eastern Europe, you get rocked for being from a different city, it's what it is. It's definitely a story to keep the racism narrative alive for the Western world only because how irrelevant it is COMPARED to Putin savagely killing citizens, no regard for human life.

I know what you mean. There are a few stories where there is genuine racism occurring, and I feel for those people. It shouldn't be happening to them. However, that is probably 0.1% of the overall refugee experience. I do also personally believe it's hyped up worse than it is, because race is very topical in western media. I think most people watching are sitting there thinking "yes, ok, that's unpleasant, meanwhile there are children dying!?"

It's very "western" to focus on anything racial in a conflict like this. There's much worse occurring than simple border screwups. Kids are dying, hospitals are being bombed.

Not sure if you are being serious but that is a massive generalisation. The most radical hooligans will fight each other over supporting the other local footbal team so those people definitely ecist.

There have been reports, videos of attacks and I can believe that could happen. However, there is a massive difference between the attitudes of a small border town and people in the capital.

You might be surprised but you will find people as left and liberal as they come, even in Eastern Europe.
