Teachers aren't necessarily well equipped as they may be just as ill-informed or simply not know about social media.

Yes, the advice given Is only as good as the knowledge of those who hand It out.

I do recall my schools teaching us to be "media smart" which was more focused on TV news and newspapers, but I've found it very much applies to social media as well. However, I know this kind of teaching was a rarity, and not a norm.

This actually sounds quite effective.

It's a shame many schools don't even bother covering a minority of It.

I was very lucky with my schooling. Our history classes also had a heavy focus on the different types of sources of information and how we can weigh up whether we feel those sources are valid/reliable. Lots of transferrable skills. Far better than remembering what date the Normans invaded England! Haha

Although I dropped out of school early, I still remember there was no Internet back then, hence our resources were limited to libraries and the like.

That's a fair point. I went to a great school, and it certainly wasn't a private school, so it's very possible to have this style of teaching available to everyone.

I am young enough that interactive whiteboards were becoming a norm. However, I don't think all the teachers were well accustomed to them enough to actually make full use of the technology!

My experience suggests you're not missing out. Although, I'm aware others have had far better education in the sector.

I'm self-taught dedicatedly over a period of 35 years, so there's not much that I haven't absorbed during that time frame to date.
