California Gov. Gavin Newsom announced Friday that his state will be the first to mandate the COVID-19 vaccine for children in public and private schools.

Under the mandate, the COVID-19 vaccine will be added to the list of other compulsory vaccinations required for schooling such as vaccinations against measles, mumps and rubella. Newsom said that parents can claim religious and medical exemptions.

There is no testing alternative to the mandate, and students who are not vaccinated can remain enrolled in independent study but cannot participate in in-person instruction, the governor's office said.

In my view, It's certainly a step In the right direction toward "living with the virus".

Unfortunately, It's become a part of our lives and Is here to stay.

I'm surprised to see that it's only California. Where I live, the vaccine has been made mandatory in educational institutions throughout the whole country.

It becoming mandatory for K-12 is a big deal. The mandate starting in California doesn't really surprise me I guess.

The same In my locality, as well as being mandatory for each and every worker.

The government has made It clear that those who're not vaccinated, cannot return to work.

I see. For us, the vaccine has not yet entered the professional environment, but I do expect we will get to that point sooner or later. I believe that, ultimately, the goal behind measures like this is to just get everybody vaccinated so that protection against the virus is maximized.

I'm curious why it would be a big deal though. Perhaps this will come out as ignorant on my part, but I would think that mandating the vaccine for schools and universities is just a natural consequence of the pandemic, given how widespread and severe Covid has become. Or is this last part not as true as I believe it to be?

Absolutely.

The aim of my country's government, Is to have at least 80% of the population fully vaccinated (double dose) by the end of the year. Of course, It's based on those who're eligible for the vaccine.

That is very nice! I hope that's been going well and that the vaccine has been doing its job of protecting the population against the virus ^^ Have you gotten vaccinated yet?

Yes, It's certainly helping to protect against the virus, and minimize the Infection rate.

In answer to your question, as of last week, I'm fully vaccinated.
Yourself?

Same! My second dose was on the 27th of September. Hopefully no side effects and whatnot in the future, but so far it's looking good! Smile
Edit: Just realized I messed up the date and instead mentioned a non-existent one. Oops.
