There was a very particular style of DDOS attack just now, it was mitigated.

They have a wide selection of fast servers, and they all run in RAM-disk mode. This makes it impossible for ExpressVPN or any other foreign actors to spy on your activity while connected to their servers.

I did a little digging a while back and have been skeptical ever since this post of ExpressVPN on reddit. Other than that, ExpressVPN was the only VPN that I have been using - though later on switched due to other skeptical reasons.

Take every VPN provider's no log policy with a grain of salt.

You never know (and never will know) what happens behind closed doors.

You are right. I have always been taking them with a grain of salt. When it comes to software, it can greatly effect your privacy. You can never have 100% privacy and security. If you are looking for privacy by installing security measures such as third-party software's, then you are taking the risk of trusting these types of software's to control and/or access everything within your PC.

One way or another, some software's can be used as security measures, but it can greatly impact your privacy. Therefore, achieving both at the same time is impossible.

You've made some very valid points.

Further to the discussion on VPNs, for obvious reasons, It's best to use a cracked account. In a nutshell, the objective of privacy and anonymity Is to disassociate every Identifiable detail that can potentially be used to pinpoint who you are, as well as your movements during your online navigation.

100% agree with you.

Using cracked accounts has its benefits. Sometimes it gets annoying as the individual changes his/her password. Alternatively, this is why a VPN is extremely useful as it provides many users to connect to the same server - making it harder for 3-letters to track down who you are, that is if the VPN's no-log policy co-exists.

That's the downside of cracked accounts.

I've had accounts die within a day or two, while others have lasted In excess of 12 months. On-topic of privacy & anonymity, although many users believe It's much of a muchness, there's a clear distinction between the two as follows.

Quote:Privacy- Not being able to see what you're doing.
Anonymity- Not being able to Identify you.

An analogy that separates both, Is when you've broken Into a house wearing a balaclava, stolen a few bits & pieces, but caught on CCTV camera. The occupants can "see what you're doing" when viewing the footage, but due to the balaclava, you could not be "Identified". The former pertains to your privacy being disclosed, and the latter Is relative to your anonymity being Intact.

That is a very well-detailed analogy that you used. Well said and informative. Privacy, Anonimity & Security are all used interchangeably without what they do in mind. Understanding the differences between can help many users who are into the world of privacy & security.

All the more reason to use It.

Security awareness Is one of the best forms of defense. When the leaks were Identified, they were aware of their vulnerabilities and patched them accordingly- which ultimately strengthened their service as a VPN provider.

As you say. Companies that are able to learn from an experience shouldn't lose customers. What doesn't kill you only makes you stronger.
E.g., Hide My Ass (HMA). More like, "Hide? My ass!" LEA's had a field day with the service that said they would but ...didn't.

No surprises there. Even 10 years ago they weren't all that reputable.

Your comment killed me, had a good laugh from it. That aside, they've also had their IRC leaked. Goes to show on how these "privacy-focused" services respect users privacy.
