The Economist did an interview with Elon Musk last month. The first ~30 minutes of the interview are about the implications of AI and his predictions.

15:20 - Will China be the leader in AI?
25:43 - Elon Musk on Sam Altman and the AI bosses
31:20 - “Work is going to be optional”
41:07 - Should one man have so much power?
49:44 - Starlink and the war in Ukraine
55:18 - “I got too involved in politics”
57:14 - Musk: zero people died because of USAID cuts
01:01:15 - Europe, the far right and civil war in Britain

The work being optional part is crazy lol. If AI really gets to that level in 5 years, that would change everything. AI has been replacing jobs but not all jobs, and at the same time people are anti-ai and are fighting to bring back human operated jobs.

One of the most fascinating aspects I find, is the low-level trade/chip war going on between the U.S. and China.

Elon described, but the U.S. has a significant amount of control over the export of chips to China. While China has a huge amount of electricity, they do not have access to the same chips and are being tariffed when they import them. In a way, it's no longer a race to develop a nuclear bomb or visit the moon... it's a race to control the chip market with the emergence of AI. Taiwan is home to TSMC and you can pretty much assume what that means.

It would be nice to see chips being made in the US on par with what we import from China
