Am I eGPU Ready? - M00N66 - 08-25-2018
So my ThunderBolt Type-C seems ready to rock. However, I am not familiar with that technology so it would be nice of someone to also give me their input in that regard.

If this is 100% compatible, I would like to know if my built-in GPU would stack along with the external one, creating more Vram and processing power, and also some recommendations regarding which eGPU setup to buy. I've been eying the Omen for a while.

Looks pretty good, should run without a problem.
I had the Omen accelerator, it's pretty nice and without competition imo (has gb lan, 4 USB's 3.0 and you can even shove a 2.5" drive in there).
My idea was to get a notebook for on-the-go, only with productivity-tools, and once home, plug a single USB-C cable in the notebook (it will charge it, too), and enjoy gaming.
Unfortunately, it does not work that way yet. Maybe it was because i used an somewhat older asus notebook with mediocre thunderbolt support and 2x PCIe, but i had some problems with the mouse, which would sometimes lag (only in situations where the HDD in the omen was in use AND a download was running, taking the full bandwidth).
While the omen is still my favorite, be sure to be EXTREMELY careful when you put the GPU in. It's really not easy and the PCIe tab that holds the gpu down will break off super easy.
Also, make sure your GPU has a max. length of 290mm.
edit: Afaik it's impossible for the iGPU "power" to be added to the eGPU "power".
