Rapper Akon Plans for His Own Cryptocurrency - Oni - 08-20-2018
With the recent crash of Bitcoin, less people are investing in cryptocurrency. The rapper Akon, known for several 2005-2006 hits, intends to create his own cryptocurrency called AKoin. While it may appear laughable, he's already helped many in Africa obtain lighting that would be otherwise unavailable (via Akon Lighting Africa). He also intends to invest in "a planned city in Senegal where the economy would run entirely on his own cryptocurrency, AKoin." Seems silly, but if it has any results it would be interesting.

“This coin is focused specifically on Africa,” Akon told me at the event. “Businesses that could be utilized in Africa, the population that can be using it in Africa, and, more importantly than anything, the entrepreneurs that can be developed and honed in Africa.”
The singer believes that AKoin would best serve nations with currencies destabilized by runaway inflation or corrupt governments, as the public ledger of blockchain guards against malfeasance, and would allow users to “control their own economy and control their own destiny.”

Very Ingenious with "AKoin".
Although It's somewhat of a long shot, he's quite an Intelligent Individual, hence It wouldn't surprise me If It does In fact move forward.

I'll definitely be investing for the short term game, personally can see this guy rising rapidly at the start but not quite finishing the race.

I'm 100% in agreement. This is going to open the music and hiphop world, specifically, to the idea of cryptocurrency, much like the current use of gold (I fail to see how shiny rocks are of any value, period.), and with the extremely wealthy rap crowd buying Akoins, I see this crap getting up to 900-1200 a unit, and that'll be the time for the smart basement dweller to sell. I used to produce, mix, and master music and the rap community is not full of smart people in my experience. They will not know when to let the things drop, or even when the entire scheme is ended. People's knots will disappear over night after buying me out of my rapper coins at, again, ~1k.
Time to buy mad fuckin' Akoins y'all! Let's boogy!

I personally hate the whole crypto-currency scene, but if this helps people in need, and he turns this into a sustainable economy, Im all for it.

If this does In fact succeed, It'll be Interesting to see whether others follow suit.
I still believe It's pretty optimistic, but certainly not unrealistic.

Sounds like fun. I might get a few Akoins and sit on em for a while. I'd be worried about a whole town being funded by this currency though.

The potential is huge.
If he gets an entire city to run only on this coin, it will build a base to easily expand, and doing this is Africa would be quite easy. This could grow really big and even make a bunch of poor Africans a lot of money.
