Is coding your hobby, or your career? - Percent - 07-13-2018

Do you engage in software development simply because you enjoy doing it as a hobby, or do you write code for your actual career? Why do you enjoy programming?

Write coding for my actual career and the reason why is because, I then don't have to be called out by being a script kiddie lol. I can then code my own shit for my own purposes.

Coding is life. I kinda took a programming break to just game and chill for a few years since I've been at this since I was 5. So after a two year break, I'm back to brushing off the cobwebs and, well: Coding is life. I've been back in the game maybe 8 months, but I'm learning to do program stuff I should still remember...
I used to admin website management systems and forums for a few websites, and I'm all up ins SQL, PHP, and I'm starting in on python to speed some daily tasks up.
But it's temporary. My main passion is poking around where I'm not wanted, so SQL and PHP are my biggies at the moment. That and the apparent ruby stuff required for metasploit.

Only reason reason I'm not working right now is I'm actually out at someone's house waiting for him to give me a "data pack" I need to get into a network's access point. I gave him a laptop for it, but he's playing with a light saber and waiting for someone else to show up. I'm browsing his network as payment for making me wait.

Right now it's a hobby and I wouldn't mind doing it for a job. I just don't want it to be the main focus of my career, I don't want to be a "programmer".

There are many people who love programming, but when they get a career out of it, they absolutely hate it. I think that it is because when you program as your hobby, you can create whatever you want, and at your own pace; when you program for your job, you are creating whatever your boss tells you to create and there might be a deadline involved.

That's great! If it's any of my business, do you make any money out of your computing skills? Smile
