Man Jailed For Hacking Prison Computers To Bust Out A Friend - mothered - 04-29-2018 Greetings everyone, This demonstrates the seriousness of compromising computer systems, and the ramifications of altering and gathering sensitive Information. Quote:A judge sentenced a Michigan man to 87 months —7 years 3 months— in prison for hacking into a county jail's computer system and modifying prisoner records in an attempt to get an inmate released early. Quote:Initially, he engaged in a spear-phishing campaign. He sent emails to county jail employees, luring them on the "ewashtenavv.org" domain, a carbon copy of the county's official website of "ewashtenaw.org." Source. RE: Man Jailed For Hacking Prison Computers To Bust Out A Friend - Oni - 04-29-2018 7 years is a long time, but perhaps not for someone that was modifying data pertaining to inmates. RE: Man Jailed For Hacking Prison Computers To Bust Out A Friend - Jiggly - 04-29-2018 Wow, what a story. I wonder what his motive was. Also interesting that the courts documents apparently don't list how he was detected. RE: Man Jailed For Hacking Prison Computers To Bust Out A Friend - pttt96 - 04-29-2018 in trying to help his friend he ended up like him, maybe with a greater punishment than his friend RE: Man Jailed For Hacking Prison Computers To Bust Out A Friend - tvojaMama - 04-29-2018 Reminds me of Mr. Robot, when Elliot hacks to free an inmate. RE: Man Jailed For Hacking Prison Computers To Bust Out A Friend - Bish0pQ - 04-29-2018 7 years certainly is overkill depending on which prisoner he was looking to release. There are murderers that have to do less time. Also he has to pay a lot of money, in my opinion he should be awarded that money. Maybe he did something illegal, yes, should he be punished? Yes, but this is ridiculous. He showed that the system is vulnerable and maybe prevented a dozen of other hacks that might have been succceeded in the future. Least they could do is give him a lower sentence... I still believe that all hacking should be legal, as long as you don't leak data/don't use your hacking for malicious intends. Though this is unfortantly the case for him, so he deserves a penalty, but not this. There are murderers that have to do less time. Absolutely agree. In my locality, there's been countless murderers who've served less time. This (hacking) just goes to show the severity of penalties Imposed for computer-related crimes.
