Facebook Hits Another Data Breach - mothered - 04-29-2018

Greetings to all,

As expected, yet another data breach by Facebook Is likely to follow. As I've stated prior, things will only get worse for Facebook before they get better. This breach Is predicted to be on quite a large scale.

Quote:In what could be yet another massive Facebook data breach, like that of Cambridge Analytica (CA), more “instances of misuse of user data or other undesirable activity by third parties” is expected, Facebook said in its quarterly report shared with the US Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) on Thursday.

“Such incidents and activities may include the use of user data in a manner inconsistent with our terms or policies, the existence of false or undesirable user accounts, election interference, improper ad purchases, activities that threaten people’s safety online or offline, or instances of spamming, scraping, or spreading misinformation.”

I have the feeling that things are going to get a lot worse before they get better. Wouldn't surpise me if he would have to go back and explain himself again.

BUT I do think that Facebook now realizes that they are NOT untouchable and that if they'll get caught there will be consequences. I do think that they'll improve their security/privacy policies. If they'll apply it and actually follow it, no one will know for sure. Also keep in mind that if Facebook isn't selling your data, someone else probably will. There's still a big market and some companies just can't resist the money that these companies are offering.

True.

In my views, I believe all the latest happenings with Facebook were Inevitable. A platform/network on that scale, no matter what tech and AI measures are In place, would be very difficult to monitor and maintain In a compliant and orderly fashion.

Amazing! I`m not surprised. It`s gonna be a milestone for keeping privacy properly. Something should be changed

Thanks for sharing this, I'm feeling that a lot of people actually don't know about these big data breaches. Thus never care about their data. So big companies still can make their money with selling data and most of their users don't give a fuck about that. We should be more careful about what we share online, who we share it with and what are the consequences.
As you said above, data breaches for a big company are pretty inevitable, but this doesn't mean the users should not care and not be aware of those.
We should have more people like you that share this kind of stuff so people can see what is actually happening. Thanks again for doing that.

Agree.

Companies are also responsible for neglecting to Inform their users. I've posted a few threads, where breaches took place 6-12 months prior before the company decided to disclose It. When there's vulnerabilities In the database, changing your passwords Is a complete waste of time. I've Injected malicious code via webpage Input, exploited the database and retrieved every detail relative to the database In question on countless sites. The majority fail to Implement data sanitization, which can significantly reduce these types of attacks.

This thread and this news is old (back from April). Were you really going to post this?

On another note, it is really worrisome that people don't really understand how their data is collected. I only recently started becoming more concerned with my privacy but the more reading I do on how to protect my data the more and more I find out about just how shady and aggressive companies really are when it comes to the masses' data.
