Community Warnings - Synthx - 03-02-2018 So, I thought this would be a nice little thing for the community. It's just an idea though, if staff likes, they can re-name this thread if need be, and make it a stickie. I was thinking this would be great for the community as it shows we are looking out for each other, and other people. Alright, the idea is as follows: If you see a scam of any sort anywhere whether that be some kind of email, or some kind of file, or some kind of scam website, etc, etc, post about it below. RE: Community Warnings - Boudica - 03-03-2018 You mean like, general ones that aren't necessarily the type we'd have SL scam reports for. As in, dodgy scam emails etc? RE: Community Warnings - phyrrus9 - 03-03-2018 Shouldn't this be in serious discussion then? Possibly stickied there? Or maybe in the market RE: Community Warnings - Boudica - 03-03-2018 (03-03-2018, 01:20 AM)phyrrus9 Wrote: Shouldn't this be in serious discussion then? Possibly stickied there? Or maybe in the market I was toying with moving this to suggestions or something. Not sure. Moving to serious discussion for now. As in, dodgy scam emails etc? Well, I was thinking pretty much anything dangerous, I've seen stuff like this before, and I just am not the best explainer. As in, dodgy scam emails etc? Then I'll add my first community warning, pertaining to software sales: If you see a post by some member (really any member, regardless of time spent here), that's along the lines of: 1. a port scanner 2. a brute forcer 3. a proxy list 4. a proxy "checker" 5. instagram anything and the prices are >$2, it's probably crapola (it probably is to begin with, but hey, it might be worth a couple bucks to someone). Often, these are being marketed for insane prices (I saw one as high as $90), and they're nothing more than simple VB scripts. Be very cautious towards these. Secondly, if there isn't a virustotal, assume it's infected. If there is one, don't always trust the result, it can give false flags, but more often than not the flags are legitimate. Myself and mothered often run these in sandboxes or VMs to determine their legitimacy, so if one has been flagged or doesn't have one, look for one of our replies. Staff will either deal and rectify the Issue, or eradicate It. Externally, I like the Idea. |
