New member redirect to rules - Synthx - 01-11-2018

So, I was looking through the mybb plugins page, and I stumbled upon this plugin: Redirect After Registration. I think it would be a great addition, as when a member is finished signing up, they will be redirected to the rules page. As long as that is what @Oni set's it to. Or maybe make a really nice welcome page that tells you to make sure and read the rules with a link there. If not the rules page, maybe the introduction section?

Let me know what you think of this idea. I would love to see it implemented, even though it won't affect existing members.

As we have said before, we assume you have read the rules. Ignorance doesn't excuse you.

I never said that, lol. I didn't mean it that way. It doesn't have to be the rules page, it can be a nice welcome page that will make people think even better of SL.

I'm for this. It would be nice if there was a little box to check saying "I have read the rules", like you see with TOS pages.

IMO, that wasn't my full intent on this, but that would be nice as well.

I don't think that's necessarily the point. It's not so much about accountability for doing wrong (as that is what we staff are for), but if members are automatically taken to such information, rather than neglecting to check it, perhaps we would have less work. For example, it might reduce the gravedigging issues. For reference - We've never operated under the assumption that ignorance excuses anyone.

Exactly this.

I do my utmost best to reference the rules with new registrations, but evidently I cannot account for each and every member. An alternative Is sending an automated PM linking the rules to each registered member. I've done this on my board, and there's no effort Involved. It's simply a welcome message (via PM) Inclusive of the link to the rules.

This could be a good thing, though I do think that not a lot of people would read it. Especially because they don't know the forum like we do.

Chances are much higher that persons who have been here for some weeks and enjoy the community, that they'll read the rules better and faster than when they first get here.

Also remember that a lot of people land here on Sinister.ly because they're looking for a specific thing they need, and find it in one of our threads. I highly doubt that they'll read the rules, but it might relieve the burden on staff a little bit.

This has been discussed before here actually. My viewpoint stands the same, and I'm sure admins' haven't changed either.

If a user can't be bothered to read the rules, they will have no place here when they break them. We're a technology forum and ignorance has no place in technology.

Still a useful plugin though!

Unfortunately, common sense Is not always part of the equation.

New registrations also Include those who're completely new to boards/forums as a whole and such members are unaware that rules exist to begin with, let alone where they're located.
