[Linux] Someone help me here (grub2) - phyrrus9 - 10-21-2017 I keep getting this....no idea why, but its irritating..... anyone know?
RE: [Linux] Someone help me here (grub2) - Asura - 10-21-2017 Well, my knowledge is a bit limited in this area but what I normally use to fix issues regarding Linux and Grub is Boot Repair Disk. This may or may not help but give it a try if you want. Of course, have a back up just in case. https://sourceforge.net/projects/boot-repair-cd/ RE: [Linux] Someone help me here (grub2) - phyrrus9 - 10-21-2017 (10-21-2017, 10:09 PM)Asura Wrote: Well, my knowledge is a bit limited in this area but what I normally use to fix issues regarding Linux and Grub is Boot Repair Disk. Oh grub is fully functional, it's nothing to do with the actual software, it's grub-probe that's having a bitch fit. That's the application that scans other drives for already installed operating systems (like other linux parts, windows, etc) RE: [Linux] Someone help me here (grub2) - Slacker - 10-21-2017 Well shit if you know what the problem is bro just go fix it. I'm sure @ender will be able to teach you bud RE: [Linux] Someone help me here (grub2) - phyrrus9 - 10-21-2017 (10-21-2017, 10:23 PM)Slacker Wrote: Well shit if you know what the problem is bro just go fix it. I'm sure @ender will be able to teach you bud I know where the problem is, but not what it is, or even remotely why it's happening. Google search reveals that this is a documented bug in the latest GRUB update, so who knows wtf is going on...fuck ubuntu RE: [Linux] Someone help me here (grub2) - Blink - 10-21-2017 (10-21-2017, 10:23 PM)Slacker Wrote: Well shit if you know what the problem is bro just go fix it. RE: [Linux] Someone help me here (grub2) - Slacker - 10-21-2017 Why not just uninstall the last update until it is resolved lol fixes the issue.. I'm a mother fucking problem solver

Unfortunately that's not how it works with apt.... I tried the uninstall, purge, reinstall, reconfigure thing to no avail. Really it's just a bunch of annoying messages that isn't seeming to cause a real issue. RE: [Linux] Someone help me here (grub2) - Llebacc - 10-26-2017 I was writing up a post on commands to roll back packages, until I realized grub-probe is just rolled right into one big ol' fat Grub package. And that blows. At least if the bug is documented, it'll be fixed eventually. Or maybe you can go and submit a patch. Or if you really like living dangerously, roll back your entire Grub package to the last version, and endure all the horrors and headaches that comes with that. You'd think that some of these tools would be available outside of the monolithic Grub package to avoid situations like this. And in case you need the commands, here they are anyways since I went and figured them out. Install specific version: Code: sudo apt-get -t=<version> install <package>Code: apt-cache showpkg <package name>RE: [Linux] Someone help me here (grub2) - phyrrus9 - 10-26-2017 (10-26-2017, 05:26 PM)Llebacc Wrote: I was writing up a post on commands to roll back packages, until I realized grub-probe is just rolled right into one big ol' fat Grub package. It doesn't break functionality i found, which is good, so im not quite as concerned as I was. I would submit a patch, but honestly I have no idea how grub-probe even remotely works. Thanks for the input though, if it gets annoying I probably will just roll back (or go to LILO) |
