Does this not sound absolutely amazing? - phyrrus9 - 10-12-2017 The other day we were all having a conversation on discord about the sounds of various cars, and then of course someone brought up a supercharged mustang, which I think is cheating a little, the charger makes all the noise with no real boost curve. Well, I decided to go out and record the sound of mine, from inside the cabin. I've had a few friends describe it in different ways, but I want to know your thoughts. There are no superchargers on my car, but there are 3 modified turbochargers, and a heavily modified engine. Before you get your panties up in a knot about doing this on public streets, it was a 50% throttle run, 1st and 2nd gear only, at 1AM, and I cut it just over 60mph. RE: Does this not sound absolutely amazing? - mothered - 10-12-2017 Sounds awesome. If I'm not mistaken, the whistling sound Is the result of the turbos kicking In. It'll be Interesting to see what It does In a quarter mile. Back In my younger days, my friend's Monaro (350 Chev modded to the max), 4k high stall auto, 4.11 diff ratio pulled 11 seconds flat. Given It was a pretty heavy vehicle, It was quite quick. RE: Does this not sound absolutely amazing? - phyrrus9 - 10-13-2017 (10-12-2017, 02:37 PM)mothered Wrote: Sounds awesome. If you listen closely you'll hear 2 different pitch classes, the less significant one is the first 2 turbos, the really loud one is the much larger third one, but its not the turbine blades you hear, its the volume of air being sucked through it. It's been a very long time since I've heard of someone putting a high stall TC on their car, that's one of those things that sort of stayed in the retro era along with decent engines. Now that I've listened to It carefully, I see what you mean with the turbo. With the high stall, that was close to 30 years ago, They were widely used, so too was the good old B&M shifter and the Mallory tachos (tachometer). I haven't touched motors since then, so I don't know whether "roller rockers" are used nowadays, but they were popular back then as well. Powerglide transmissions were somewhat popular too. Those were the days... A lot of that technology has been lost to the digital era, but high stalls are still used from time to time. Attending the drags (drag racing) twice a week, see who can get the quickest time In quarter mile, applying VHT on tires for traction and the list goes on. RE: Does this not sound absolutely amazing? - sleaze - 10-13-2017 I'm a huge sucker for good sounding NA cars, but I can dig it. Is this the bimmer?
