Microsoft Is Actually Talking To Sony To Make CrossPlay Happen - MesaGFX - 08-27-2017 ![]() There’s been a lot of talk as of late about developers who want to make cross-play possible between platforms. To some extent, they’ve done it, as a number of titles support cross-play between Xbox consoles and PC. But Sony is still being a stickler, indicating that it just can’t be done without compromising the security of its players. Microsoft isn’t giving up, though. Speaking with GameReactor, the head of Xbox Games Marketing, Aaron Greenberg, has explained that the company has actually reached out to its main competitor to see if it can find a way to make cross-platform gaming work. After all, it’s a feature that all the fans want, and it sounds like everyone is on board with the idea…but Sony. Greenberg noted that the company has high hopes with the discussion. “Absolutely, yeah. We’re talking to Sony [about cross-play], we do partner with them on Minecraft and of course we would like to enable them to be part of that; one community, to unite gamers. So we’re talking to them and we’re hopeful that they’ll be supportive of it.” That said, Sony has been known to be quite against the idea in the past – and for the lamest of reasons. But hopefully, with Microsoft actually involved, things could actually get somewhere. Mojang recently introduced a Better Together update for Minecraft that enables cross-platform play across the Xbox One and Nintendo Switch, which is set to launch sometime this fall. When attempting to get Sony on board, it noted that “we are still in discussions with Sony about PlayStation (cross-play) and have nothing to confirm. We would love to work with Sony to bring players on PlayStation 4 into this ecosystem as well.” One can only hope that Sony figures out how beneficial a feature cross-play is with games like Rocket League and Minecraft and relents a little bit, but the company has been quite protective with its tech, ever since the infamous PSN hack of 2011. We’ll have to see if Microsoft can relate to them and explain just how great it’d work. In the meantime, hey, at least Nintendo is on board, right? RE: Microsoft Is Actually Talking To Sony To Make CrossPlay Happen - Ecks - 08-27-2017 I loved the old Playstation games 1+2, even enjoyed the living hell out of the original PSP, but Honestly despite the perks of PS4, I still wouldn't choose it over and Xbox 1, hell or even a Xbox360. Only good thing about Microsoft these days is their console. Consoles are very strong now a day compared to the playstation RE: Microsoft Is Actually Talking To Sony To Make CrossPlay Happen - zorrophreak - 08-27-2017 I remember last time they tried this. Maybe they'll have success this time. I've been mainly a PC player however I would love to go out and get a Playstation some time in the future if cross-platform was integrated. RE: Microsoft Is Actually Talking To Sony To Make CrossPlay Happen - Slacker - 08-28-2017 That would honestly be amazing. I mean I have owned both consoles, truth be told as shitty as it sounds, Xbox cod players over all are a little more competitive so this should be interesting to watch unfold. RE: Microsoft Is Actually Talking To Sony To Make CrossPlay Happen - VirtualFrost - 08-28-2017 It'd be cool but then FPS gamers would hate such a feature because console players would generally be at a disadvantage to PC players. They also have to figure out how to deal with clashing gamertag/PSN names. Didn't really think of the Gamertag issue that would surely pose an inconvenience RE: Microsoft Is Actually Talking To Sony To Make CrossPlay Happen - VirtualFrost - 08-28-2017 (08-28-2017, 10:21 AM)MesaGFX Wrote:(08-28-2017, 09:41 AM)VirtualFrost Wrote: It'd be cool but then FPS gamers would hate such a feature because console players would generally be at a disadvantage to PC players. The obvious work around is multiplayer games will either have to start making their own account services where you then link your PSN/Gamertag or otherwise Sony and Microsoft would have to work on making a platform that games then incorporate into their games. Tricky stuff if they do it for sure though. True I will love to see what they do with this or if it all just speculation If they do pull this off tho it will be very promising for console gamers RE: Microsoft Is Actually Talking To Sony To Make CrossPlay Happen - wowbiggestlad - 05-14-2020 I hope this happens. I've got two groups of friends, those on PS and those on Xbox and it would be nice if they could all play together. |
