Player Unknowns Battlegrounds to Implement Paid Loot Crates - Skullmeat - 07-27-2017 PUBG is implementing paid loot crates earlier than stated, for a short time during gamescom. The developer plans to have 3 crates, 2 of which are free, but one for $2.50. Some see this as a promotional stunt, but others see it as an act of greed. What do you think? RE: Player Unknowns Battlegrounds to Implement Paid Loot Crates - Inori - 07-27-2017 Devs are entitled to add whatever they want to their games, so those calling it greedy can shove it. Although, introducing non-cosmetic items players can get out of game (I can't watch the video so this may not be directly applicable) generally tarnishes games based on skill and good luck. RE: Player Unknowns Battlegrounds to Implement Paid Loot Crates - Oni - 07-27-2017 Other games (i.e. CS:GO) already do it, so it's too late to complain. Personally, I find these kinds of microtransactions distasteful. Even games like Eve Online are starting to sell ship-specific skins that cost upward of $20 (or the in game currency equivalent). RE: Player Unknowns Battlegrounds to Implement Paid Loot Crates - Skullmeat - 07-27-2017 Skins I dont really mind, what concerns me is weapons and items. A game like Battlegrounds won't introduce anything pay-to-win. You'll have to put up with rich people having prettier skins, though. RE: Player Unknowns Battlegrounds to Implement Paid Loot Crates - Skullmeat - 07-27-2017 You put too much faith in the dev. I've seen far too many great games ruined by poor choices to be that optimistic. RE: Player Unknowns Battlegrounds to Implement Paid Loot Crates - Bish0pQ - 07-27-2017 Not sure if they should follow the rest that are also implementing crates and skins. H1Z1 has done the same as well and there are actually a lot of games that are implementing skins... to make more money. I'd say it doesn't really matter, and it's fair that developers are trying to increase profits, especially since there are so many competing companies. Though I do think that if they sell skins/better weapons... they should lower the price of the game. Same for DLC's, many paid DLC's should mean a lower game price, in my opinion. |
