Britain's Newest Warship Runs Windows XP LOL!! - Ecks - 06-28-2017 Fears have been raised that Britain's largest ever warship could be vulnerable to cyber attacks after it emerged it appears to be running the outdated Microsoft Windows XP. A defense source told The telegraph that some of the on-board hardware and software "would have been good in 2004" when the carrier was designed, "but now seems rather antiquated." However, he added that HMS Queen Elizabeth is due to be given a computer refit within a decade. And senior officers said they will have cyber specialists on board to defend the carrier from such attacks. This somewhat comes to no surprise (relative to XP Itself), but very Informative reading pertaining to Britain's warship. There are so many companies on a large scale who still run Windows XP- some simply cannot afford the change, whilst others are accustomed to their environment, hence refuse to upgrade. RE: Britain's Newest Warship Runs Windows XP LOL!! - zorrophreak - 06-28-2017 They have certainly outdone themselves. I prefer XP in terms of interface, but that is just grand. I definitely agree. In terms of cyber security, when measures have not been kept up-to-date or Implemented accordingly, complacency can have detrimental effects on a given organization's framework. In this case, It's the navy. RE: Britain's Newest Warship Runs Windows XP LOL!! - Lokes - 06-28-2017 Windows XP has its own pretty "good" reputation tho. It might be outdated, but it's still pretty stable and if you pay some extra attention to it, it should be safe too. But I still don't really understand, on why they don't upgrade. I mean what are they going to do, if support for XP is coming to a halt? If it's the people who don't like the upgrade, you should simply force them as an employer, even tho it's harsh, but being so behind in technology only because people don't like the change, is way too forgiving (from a employer's point of view). |
