New iMac is upgradeable - Ecks - 06-09-2017

According to an iFixit teardown, Apple's new 4K 21.5-inch iMac has both removable RAM and a Kaby Lake processor that's not soldered onto the logic board. Whereas the previous models had soldered memory modules, the new iMac's memory sits in two removable SO-DIMM slots.

Hm, I believe the Mac Pros have been upgradeable for RAM for a while, but upgradeable iMac is cool. For CPU, I'm amazed they're not soldering it onto the logic board. As I said before, Apple is certainly pushing to be more PC like. I like it.

It's about time a device of this nature Is upgradeable.

They purposely fix hardware components to force the consumer In purchasing the entire device when It fails.

This is not "apple-like", I hope they'll do this more.
I still wouldn't buy anything with an apple logo, but this is a good step.
