Switzerland fines man over FB - Ecks - 06-02-2017 The headline pretty much says it all but if your interest has been peaked you can read more of this hilarious yet saddening tale here http://fortune.com/2017/05/30/defamation-comments-facebook/ RE: Switzerland fines man over FB - mothered - 06-03-2017 Rather than targeting those who "posted the defamatory comments", they pursued a random Individual who simply liked them. I didn't know Facebook have a "TOS" on their Like functionality. Or do they? (sarcasm). It's the most ridiculous article I've read this year. RE: Switzerland fines man over FB - Neurogen - 06-05-2017 Absolute Bonkers, who gives a fuck tho when you live on the other side of the globe xD. RE: Switzerland fines man over FB - Bish0pQ - 06-06-2017 Yeah I was pretty surprised as well. It's not an unknown fact that companies do background checks on Facebook to check what their employees are up to, but this is rather rare I'd say. Imagine getting a fine like that because you used "rude comments" on a picture/status of your friend(s). RE: Switzerland fines man over FB - Ecks - 06-07-2017 Police in the US also use FB and other social media services to monitor known criminals, they also publish fake accounts using images and information from prisoners own social media accounts. I know because when my family and I came here a Deputy came up to my brother and asked if he still had any ties to the Aryan Brotherhood and if he planned on setting up a group here in town. Pretty blazen for a LEO to do this but this is a small town and if any gang gets a foothold here the four officers they have (two in am, two in pm) are utterly fucked. Also my brother is a moron and posted his shit on social media so he kinda deserved the 3rd degree. RE: Switzerland fines man over FB - Komee - 06-09-2017 Wow. Crazy how different countries' free speech policies are... RE: Switzerland fines man over FB - Ecks - 06-09-2017 Free speech has been and always will be an illusion, they want you to say something so they can do something to you. In Communist nations if you speak against the Government openly, you will vanish. In Religious nations speak against the church or God(s) and you face imprisonment or death. Here in USA free speech is often abused and overlooked but there are things you can say that are not protected and can get you arrested. RE: Switzerland fines man over FB - Komee - 06-09-2017 True. Lots of restrictions - libel, yelling fire in crowded theater, inciting violence. But hate and political speech are generally protected, even though like you said above controversial views can be used against you. RE: Switzerland fines man over FB - Ecks - 06-09-2017 Hate speech is only protected as long as it doesn't cause violence (IE calling someone the N word to their face, you can say that word all you like but if you call someone it to their face you are provoking conflict). RE: Switzerland fines man over FB - Komee - 06-09-2017 Right. A lot in the US think it's unprotected, interestingly. Often see people calling for those using slurs to be arrested solely for the speech. |
