DHS Considering New Laptop Ban - Jiggly - 05-30-2017

Recently a ban was placed, by the US, for all devices larger than a smartphone on direct flights between the US and 8 countries (majority Muslim populations).
Despite the recent decision not to extend such a ban to European countries, there are now discussions about extending the ban to ALL international flights.
Predictions, concerns, thoughts?

So they're under the assumption that the "size" of the device Is the Issue, and not what the device Is capable of.
So (as a general example), I have a 5k 18" Dell Alienware lappy and a Bash Bunny USB stick. In their eyes, the latter presents no security risk whatsoever. Anything electronic (Irrespective of size), may well be used for malicious Intent.

American flight restrictions aren't really about safety, they are about the appearance of safety. If you make someone think everything is all good then it might as well be, we call it Security Theater.

There seems to be a lot of hints about this being related to the lithium ion batteries and their size. I really wouldn't know more on the matter, but I sure am curious!

This is probably true for a lot of security measures for all sorts of things. There's a reason "dummy" security cameras exist. Deterrents and pleasing stakeholders by making it look like you're invested in safety play their roles. I wonder how this ties into this ban if it really is to do with the batteries.

From that perspective, It does make sense.
I too, am Interested to see how and to what extent It poses a flight risk.

This is either not gonna happen, or it won't last long. It pisses too many people off.

I can see the idea, but I can get much more dangerous things in the cargo hold, and still get away with it.
There's better things for them to be working on.

That's as much as I've assumed, but wouldn't know much about it. Which makes me all the more curious as to why this has become such an issue.

There's so many other airline security risks and security Issues In general (as with the recent terrorist Incidents), It makes me wonder as to why they're concerned (to this degree) with this.

Because it is security theater, it isn't meant to actually make anyone safe, it is meant to cause irrational fear over something then the government can step in strip away more rights and say there we made everything all better, have a lollypop(for only 50$ in the duty free, unless your first class).

Then they better think of other measures.
Terrorists and the like, have no fear therefore this flimsy proposed Implementation will serve very little purpose.
