The witcher will get a Netlix serie! - Bish0pQ - 05-17-2017

Good afternoon everyone,

I think everyone here knows about the video game "The Witcher" from CD Projekt Red. Especially the last game was very popular in a lot of different audiences.
Now there aren't only books and games, but there will also be a serie made by Netflix. It's not sure yet whether it will have things/stories from the game, but I'm looking forward to it anyway.

I hope that Netflix won't fuck this up though. They have soo much orginals right now, I hope they can keep up. In my opinion it would be better if a studio like HBO would film this.

What are your thoughts about this, and would you watch it?

Hopefully they don't fuck it up.

I've seen a bunch of people play the game and it looks interesting. I'd love to see a Netflix series for it. I hope it's good!

Spoiler:
I'm curious, why do you keep writing series without the s? O.o

I hope so too. Netflix is creating the orginal series quite fast.

It's because in my language (dutch) serie means episode, but serie also means series. I know, dutch can be quite a confusing language.
I have to switch languages quite fast every time, so I don't mind the words sometimes, I think my english overall is okay though.

That was honestly a way more fascinating answer than I thought it was going to be. I had no idea you speak Dutch (if you've mentioned it before and I forgot, then I'm sorry xD). Your English is better than native speakers. Us English/Americans like to butcher our languages as much as is humanly possible.

So, when it comes to Netflix, is there a dutch version of it? I'm assuming so, since there's different version for the UK and US despite shared language. But, I'm also wondering if shows, like Witcher, are released with dubs/subs in Dutch as well as English?

@Jiggly It's known by some that I'm dutch though I don't know everyone does. I try to keep my english as good as possible, since I think it is an important language to know very well. Especially when you hang around on forums/chats a lot.

There certainly is a big difference between series. Not per se a difference between episodes but rather a difference of the amount of movies and series available. We have way less to choose from. In one year, me and my GF have seen about every movie on Netflix, while other people in different countries have way more to choose from.

There are some extra dutch series which other people wouldn't have outside belgium. I don't like dutch series very much, except 1 there aren't that many good ones in my opinion.

@SxTxN I certainly hope so!

Unfortunately they are basing the series off the books and have hired the author to help out. While I will say the books are good, the author is a well known pompous asshole, he thinks the game is ruining his book sales(which is the exact opposite) and is complete trash. Funny thing is for a series based in D&D 5e the author pays no respect to the source or to anyone else for that matter, especially the fans.
So let's hope he doesn't sabotage the production.

Super hyped for this! It's being directed by the same guy who created the cutscenes for the games, and had a few shorts which were nominated for Oscars. The cutscenes in the Witcher are stellar, so i have big hopes for this series.

Here's the short that was nominated for an Oscar:

keep in mind, this short film was nominated for best short in 2002. That's some quality animation for the early 2000's.

EDIT: not sure if this is the entire short, it might just be part of it.

This is a bit of an understatement. Though it's true Sapkowski has spoken publicly about his dislike for the Witcher Games, it's not because he doesn't think they are not helping his book sales. They absolutely are. The guy is just hella salty because he made the dumb move of selling the rights to his books to CD PROJEKT RED for a one-time low price, instead of taking a % royalty on the games in exchange for the rights. Essentially, he didn't think the games would be successful at all.

Man was he wrong, and he is still extremely salty about it. I mean, who wouldn't be. It's like losing a gamble.

Difference with the series is, he can make more money off them because he knows of the popularity. Unless the series totally flops, which, if he's invested in them I don't think they will do too bad.

Where did you get the idea that The Witcher series is based on D&D 5e? The books are based in Polish/Slavic Mythology and Folklore, not some board game. The games are based on the books, but do not take place during the books, or follow the storyline of the books, they take place after the books (making the games essentially a fan-fiction tribute)

So, it will be interesting to see where the show takes the series. Whether it will be a prologue, an extension like the games, or follow the same storyline as the books. I honestly think it can turn out to be Netflix's GoT if done right.
