Mother of the Internet - Jiggly - 04-13-2017 I was browsing some posts on Anime News Network and stumbled across this particular article: Relive 21 Years of Internet History with Giant Scrolling City Artwork This article talks about a website that displays an art piece (created by John Hathway) that reflects the development of the internet in Japan for the last 21 years. I checked out the website and it's pretty awesome. There is a tutorial on how to use it fully, but naturally it's all in Japanese. Still, I would highly recommend checking it out. Mother of the Internet (interactive website) It's fully animated and you can view sections in depth. I haven't mastered using it yet, but you should give it a try and explore. I love this combination of art, technology/science! RE: Mother of the Internet - Bloody Eye - 04-13-2017 It's quite unique, since it's from Japan's perspective. I think for purely artistic purposes, it's made incredibly well. But I also think it gives you a bit of insight into their culture. The more obvious names seem to suggest something about the Japanese experience of the internet since 1996. However, this is assuming it was designed with the average Japanese internet user in mind. For all we know, this is just the artists perspective. RE: Mother of the Internet - mothered - 04-13-2017 It's certainly a well-developed and designed site. The effects are splendid. It'll take me a while yet to work out and navigate around It's features. Nice contribution. RE: Mother of the Internet - Blink - 04-13-2017 Wow... This thing is really detailed. I can't believe I wasted so much time reaching the bottom. RE: Mother of the Internet - Shin - 04-15-2017 Wow... I would smash THAT! While eatin' spinach. I still haven't worked out all the features yet (more from lack of spending time doing so), but it's so well done. As an artist myself, I really like the combination of science, math, technology and aesthetics. It's a truly lovely thing. Precisely this. Seldom I come across a website that's created In this nature. Kudos to the developers. RE: Mother of the Internet - Oni - 04-21-2017 Really awesome job on Yahoo's part for creating/hosting this. |
