Using Compiz and Emerald with XFCE - Inori - 04-11-2017

Compiz is awesome compositor that's compatible with virtually any window manager, and Emerald is a really handy drop-in replacement window manager that lets you design your own themes.

To get started (provided you're running Arch), we need to install Yaourt or some other AUR package installer. Next, we'll install the compiz, ccsm, emerald, and emerald-themes packages (this will take a while, be productive while it's installing). Alternatively, you can substitute compiz for compiz-core to use the older compiz 0.8 branch.
Code:
yaourt -S compiz ccsm emerald emerald-themes

After the packages have installed, navigate to "Settings > System > Session and Startup" and go to the "Application Autostart" tab. Add a new entry, call it Compiz, and enter "compiz --replace" in the command box.

Next, open ccsm (search for CompizConfig in whatever menu you're using), go to effects, and enter the Window Decoration menu. In the command box, enter "emerald --replace", then check the "Enable Window Decoration" box.

Spoiler: Quick tip for Whisker Menu users
Compiz has some weird side effects if you're using the external menu in one of your panels. To fix this, go to the Window Management tab in ccsm and disable the "Place Windows" plugin if it's enabled.

Now that everything is configured, we need to log out of our X session to end it, then log back in to start using Compiz and Emerald. After re-logging, open the Emerald Theme Manager and rice all you want. Since we installed the "emerald-themes" package, there's tons of themes to start playing with to get the hang of creating them.

Sorry about all the black bars, something's off with my screenshot program.
