Verifying the safety of a dodgy software - lsp - 03-19-2017 Okay, I'm considering buying a 'cracked' exploit builder from one of the tor-based marketplaces, just because I'm lazy and it's cheap. How can I verify that it's safe to use? I'll be running in a VM anyway but would like to know of any simple/entry level methods of checking for trojans etc. Bare in mind that I'm a shit reverse engineererer. I've just never had much reason to practice the skill. RE: Verifying the safety of a dodgy software - pvnk - 03-19-2017 You're fine running it in a VM RE: Verifying the safety of a dodgy software - lsp - 03-19-2017 (03-19-2017, 07:30 AM)pvnk Wrote: You're fine running it in a VM Awesome. Would still like to know simplest way to go about it. Is it generally a holistic approach? Scans, checks, sandboxing, network sniffing etc before destructive testing on binaries? RE: Verifying the safety of a dodgy software - Silence - 03-19-2017 VM is the best option, however do note that a virus CAN break out of the VM. The beat explanation I've seen about that is here - https://superuser.com/questions/289054/is-my-host-machine-completely-isolated-from-a-virus-infected-virtual-machine |
