I actually like Griffith. (Please don't kill me.) - yokai - 10-16-2016

A couple of days ago I started reading the manga known as; "Berserk", which I have put off reading for a few years now. Almost halfway through the current amount of chapters, I've come to a unpopular conclusion. I like Griffith. As a character and as a piece of art as far as his design is concerned. For those of you haven't even heard about this character, I am ashamed to have known of your existence. Not only is he one of the main characters in one of the world's most renowned series, but he is also often referred to as "the easiest character to hate in manga". This is were my opinion falls unpopular.

I really like his characters, that being said I can see why people hate him. He did something absolutely horrible, and I am not going to try to apologize on his behalf and say that the action he did wasn't bad, because it was. What I am going to say is, it is understandable that he did what he did. His character is well written, well designed and is the most realistic character out of everyone in the Berserk series to date. Which is why I am so fond of his character. (Now please don't kill me.)

I was upset when Griffith when made that decision (not trying to put a spoiler) but I'm with you I actually kind of like him as a character. If he hadn't done what he did I'm sure the band of Hawk could have reached their end goal, but that wouldn't make the story as interesting as it is.

Griffith is one trifling ass dude. His conversion into that "higher being" was 100% due to his own will & nothing else.

Yes, I also like the griffins. Pretty funny animated series. If you have time and you like something like simpsons then this is for you.

I guess OP was referring about Griffith from Berserk manga, not the animated series.

Holy crap, a banner for your thread and everything that's pretty impressive.

As for Griffith, I've always had a soft spot for really well written antagonists in a series, especially when the antagonist has deep ties to the main characters so we get to see much more of a real version of the antagonist whereas in many series the antagonist is just a bad guy with no relation to the character, so we never really get to see what they're really like rather just their exaggerated villain persona. Griffith checks both of these boxes as he is incredibly well written with relatable aspirations and dreams, and as Guts' best friend we really got to see his evolution from driven military leader to motivated villain and as a bonus his well written evolution into the antagonist made for a really well made journey for Guts to follow.
