Black or White? - yokai - 08-15-2016 I know what you are thinking, but no, this is not a racial thing. I swear. Now, that is out of the way. Unto the topic at hand. I'd like to discuss a idea, a concept that most people at least reflect upon once in their life, though most reflect about it each and ever single day of their life. What is right, and what is wrong? Why have humans labeled the world in pure black and pure white? The law system, moral and any other "system" we've made normally works with this idea in mind. "For one thing to be good, another has to be bad." or "Where there is light, shadow is close." Though we also talk about a gray zone, a scenario where something is neither entirely "good" nor "bad". My question here is;
— — — — — —
When I was younger, I had a rather negative view of the world. (Despite having a very positive and childish view until around the age of 7-8.) I could state "I hate everything" and not lie about that. Despite that, I moved on and as I grew older and adapted a thought progress alike to; "There is good in everything". Now a few years older yet, I have stopped believing that. For the past 5 years or so of my life, I have settled with a thought regarding this. "There is neither good or bad, there only is." I believe that saying that; "Taking a life is bad" is rash and without thought. Human justify their actions in any way they can come up with. "I killed so many people, but I did it for the greater good. It was the right thing to do." or "I can't see a positive outcome here, it is just a bad thing to do."
Ideas that it either has to be "bad" or "good" are narrow-minded and one-sided at best. It's near impossible to fully understand the views of others, unless you actively try constantly. In the mind of one, murder is a good thing, while in the next its a bad thing. "Good" and "Bad" as we've defined them are subjective at the very core. They are concepts of humans, not nature. Hence, I have come to believe;
Quote:There is neither good or bad, there only is. Someone once asked me what I would do if they tried to kill everyone I loved. Of course my response was; "I'd save them." To which they asked if I answered that because it; "Is the right thing to do?". Here is the funny thing though, my answer to that question surprised them. Because I wouldn't protect someone because "it's the right thing to do", I wouldn't kill someone because "it is the right thing to do". No. I would do it because it is what I wanted to do. If that makes you hate me, if that makes you love me, I don't care for either result. I don't want to act out of "good" or "bad", but act on my own wishes. Now that might sound selfish, right? (It actually does.) But then again, "selfish" is a "bad" thing, a subjective thing. RE: Black or White? - greasyC - 08-15-2016 You still have a negative view of the world RE: Black or White? - Jebusfathead - 08-15-2016 Good & bad. Right & wrong. To me they are just childish excuses to justify one's actions RE: Black or White? - WiFi - 08-16-2016 It's a question of morality. The answer lies within one's perspective. |
