Flip-phones in Anime/Manga - Jiggly - 11-10-2016

Article from Anime News Network

I hadn't thought about commenting on this until I saw the above article, but isn't it weird how much anime/manga feature flip phones? Japan is one of the biggest forward thinking countries in the world for technology, yet many of their population still use those iconic flip-phones.

I remember owing one and the satisfaction of the flip made it worth having.

Does anyone still own flip-phones or have had one recently?

Old anime have these. More recent shows have smartphones and that's the way it should be.

I remember when everyone had Motorola Razrs... Now I have a Moto X Pure.

Oh, which newer shows have you been watching?
It keeps coming up on the recent shows I've watched, but that may also be dependent on the type of show I wonder?

I currently have a flip phone, but since it's old, I just use it for the mere satisfaction of flipping it.

That is definitely a reason I still vaguely want one. That, and if you drop it, your phone isn't mostly VERY BREAKABLE SCREEN. xD

Flip phones help people through depressing (phone wise) times.

I always thought flip phones were in anime because smart phones are expensive, and anime often has younger people, who usually cant afford them.

Aka when you lose/break your normal one and there's an old spare flip phone in the house xD
