I have many qualms about Vocaloid, but one of my friends listens to nothing but this.
It's quite disappointing, but I'll refer him to the forum. Maybe he'll have an opinion to share.

I prefer nightcore/nightstep to vocaloid, I don't why, it just doesn't sound right to me.

Probably Miku, followed by Luka.
I had a Miku phone (that @BreakR grabbed me) at one point. Bricked it, although it's likely reversible.

I don't have a favorite because I don't listen to this kind of music. Miku is probably the most popular, though.
