2016 Best & Worst Anime (Anime News Network) - Jiggly - 09-29-2016

Anime News Network posted what they perceived as the best and worst anime of the Summer (2016). This is according to daily streaming polls they conducted.

I was glad to see Re:Zero up there in the best shows, with an interesting comment suggesting the second half of the season was better than the first. That kind of comment feels pretty rare with recent shows as many fall down on the second half. It brings me hope that there will be future seasons that will be an expansion of the quality from the first season.

What do you think of their opinions? Do you agree? What are your suggestions about the summer season/2016 anime shows so far?

RE: 2016 Best & Worst Anime (Anime News Network) - Master - 09-29-2016

Best two: Mob Psycho 100/Re:Zero
Runners-Up: New Game/Food Wars
Worst: Taboo Tattoo

At first glance Mob Psycho 100 is another brilliant comedy written by ONE, the same author of One Punch Man, however upon further viewership, there is much more to be seen. Mob Psycho is actually a character driven story supplemented by humor, and the occasional action sequence. I recommend Mob Psycho to everyone on this planet, and encourage them to watch and to be surprised, just as I was, when they realize they are no longer watching a simple comedy, but complex character story.

As for Re:Zero, I was impressed me. This anime wasn't afraid to take an overused idea and combine it with a myriad of originality that resulted in a very well produced show. While there are some minor errors (then again, what show doesn't have any flaws? rem best girl cough cough), Re:zero managed to succeed at being both an unique and a well executed anime. This is a show that I would most certainly recommend watching.

I agree with their opinion. Spot-on with 91 Days
Spoiler:
91 Days isn't the type of anime you should watch when feeling lazy. You actively have to follow with every single detail if you want to understand everything as the story is very complex and filled with twists. Excellent piece of art.

and Taboo Tattoo.
Spoiler:
I really didn't expect this series to turn this bad. It was horrible, a waste of time. It turned more into a joke than anything else, and those ecchi scenes were questionable, too.

In the middle of 91 Days. Biggrin

I'm really curious to watch 91 days now. You wouldn't be interested in doing a small review would you?

I probably would be if there was an incentive. There are not many anime fans here either, unfortunately.

I totally didn't think you were the type of person who'd be interested in anime that take place in a mafia environment, though.

Edit: What do the stars next to the usernames mean?

Watch 91 Days, if you're wanting something from this year.

Funny you should say that, I've been talking to Customer about doing a competition for high amounts of NSP (although, this may not be so interesting to you since you're platinum already). The competition would be like, best anime review or something along those lines.

Eh, I watch all sorts really. Just depends on my mood on the day. In the last couple years I've become more open to different types of shows.

Do you mean the stars under the userbar?

I completely agree with you on Re:Zero. In some ways, the cliche ideas have been presented so that you feel a sense of familiarity with what's happening, then it takes you off in a different direction. Also, I like how they portray emotions - they're more realistic in some ways. I feel like in the circumstances of the show, characters in other shows don't seem to get knocked down and are almost senselessly courageous, which is nice but perhaps not so realistic. We get to see this character really take some knocks and we witness an internal struggle - I tend to think "I would feel like that if I were him".
