Reading Challenge - pvnk - 07-12-2016 For every movie you watch, read a book. I think this is good for humanity in general. Too many fucking idiots that can be cured of their idiocy just by reading and critically thinking about what they read. RE: Reading Challenge - Oni - 07-12-2016 I watch too many movies for this. I make sure to read a good one (not academic-related) once every month or two. RE: Reading Challenge - Galvanized - 07-12-2016 The problem isn't that people are watching movies. It's that they're watching bad movies. Now, I know that's actually completely subjective, but to be more clear, people are watching too many "low-effort" films, that are often the same tried-and-tired formula. Books aren't that much different. Don't kid yourself, there are tons of terrible books. A ridiculous amount. Simply go into any bookstore and look for young teens, or thriller novels. Most of them are terrible. I don't think that the world would be much smarter if people read one book for each movie they watched. That's because, the same people who watch shitty movies, are the same people who would be satisfied with a shitty novel. RE: Reading Challenge - BxxxxxD~~ - 07-12-2016 do manga pornos count as books RE: Reading Challenge - pvnk - 07-12-2016 (07-12-2016, 04:18 AM)Ayumi Wrote:why am I not surprised?(07-12-2016, 03:40 AM)BxxxxxD~~ Wrote: do manga pornos count as books RE: Reading Challenge - insidious - 07-12-2016 Yeah it takes willpower and perseverance to read that many books but it's definitely worth it in the end. SOO much more detail lessons from reading a book than going through a movie in an hour RE: Reading Challenge - Oni - 07-12-2016 (07-12-2016, 06:56 AM)insidious15 Wrote: Yeah it takes willpower and perseverance to read that many books but it's definitely worth it in the end. SOO much more detail lessons from reading a book than going through a movie in an hour Many books take more than 10 hours to finish. Condensing that in to less than 3 hours doesn't always go well. Some films measure up, though. The Godfather's movie is perhaps more well known than the book (both are great). RE: Reading Challenge - mothered - 07-12-2016 To be honest, I've never read a book In It's entirety. It's simply not my thing, I find It extremely boring. My educational achievements stem from my computational work- as that also Involves a great deal of reading, but In a different manner. I do agree though, that reading good material does boost one's Intelligence. SOO much more detail lessons from reading a book than going through a movie in an hour Yeah I agree. I've never watched the Godfather, but obviously have heard it's an amazing movie. I would give Lord of the Rings as an example. The movies are absolutely stunning and stand the test of time, but there is so much more content, insight, and other in the books that Tolkien included which didn't make it into the movies because they would be too long. TBH, I would love to see HBO make LOTR into a show like they did Game Of Thrones.
