What are you currently reading? - insidious - 06-01-2016

There are many threads about Music/Gaming/Movies but nothing on books.....

So what are you currently reading?

Right now i'm reading Kurt Vonnegut's The Sirens of Titan. I heard it was an amazing book by Vonn, and picked it up off ebay for ~4$ (that's how I like my books, used and cheap).

The Siren's Of Titan is about a selfish motherfucker who no one likes, Malachi Constant, who goes on a trippy space journey through time. It's about some deep philosophical shit and I am loving it so far.

What about you guys?

If you don't like reading physical books, aren't reading anything currently, or otherwise...why?

Last book I opened was Mario Puzo's Omerta.

Oh wow, this sounds like it could be a cool thread. I like me some book stuff.

Right now I'm going through the Hitchhiker's Trilogy, and I'm on book 4 of 5 - So long, and thanks for all the fish by Douglas Adams. The series is great, I first read through the books in 6th grade and I go through them every year. Science-fiction based around a guy in england, Arthur Dent, and his travels with his friend Ford Prefect, Fords semi-cousin, crazy dude, and galactic president Zaphod Beeblebrox, Marvin the Paranoid Android who's always depressed, and Trillian who Arthur knew from a party - lots of funny moments, some pretty cool characters, memorable lines, etc.

I have no idea really what else to say about the books, but if you want some good sci-fi stuff that's also funny, pick these books up and you shouldn't be disappointed.

I don't know what the books about, but Omerta means " (as practiced by the Mafia) a code of silence about criminal activity and a refusal to give evidence to authorities. ". I love me some Mafia books.

Is that about one group in specific? I know Puzo created The Godfather but i've never been into the crime genre very much at all.

The closest I've come to the crime genre was putting Ghost in the Wires on my list, hah.

My friend is obsessed with The Hitchhikers guide, and I have had it on my list for a good amount of time now. Sci Fi is my forte.
Sounds like this might be your favorite trilogy since you go through it every year..I knew a guy who read through The Lord of the Rings every year, diehard fan he was.
If Hitchhikers guide isn't your favorite, what is?
Also, what's your favorite book/part of the series so far?

Yeah, Hitchhikers is up there in my favorite series that I've ever gone through, it's become a bit of a thing to read over and over. My favorite book in the series is probably the first, no clue since I like 'em all, but I like how they introduce all the main characters and it's got a good few silly moments.

Theory Confirmed: First is always the best..

What do you think of the movie? I haven't watched it, but does it live up to the books?

I thought the movie was pretty OK, Adams worked on it with the writer before he died so it's got a bit of him to it and some of the jokes and moments come across pretty well. It gets the basic plot across of the first book with the same name, so that was neat. My only issue was that some stuff didn't go across too well and some moments were more confusing that anything else, but it wasn't too bad.

It seems the majority of movies tend to totally miss the point of the books, but it seems (from your exp) that the movies didn't do terrible in that regard, so they must have done something right! hah. All the more for reading the series I guess, with a good movie to finish it off Tongue

Just looked up a synopsis and it looks like an interesting book, definitely. Because of intrigue, what exactly are the four agreements?
