[Review] Clannad + Afterstory Review - Angelic - 12-21-2015 Clannad & Clannad [After story]
![]()
Hello. I have decided to give my very first review on an anime I recently watched, Clannad. I enjoy giving reviews for things so I thought I'd give this a shot too and might do more as I see fit and/or have the time. I will review both Clannad and the after story as one for simplicity reasons. Story The story of Clannad can be found here: Code: Okazaki Tomoya is a delinquent who finds life dull and believes he'll never amount to anything. Along with his friend Sunohara, he skips school and plans to waste his high school days away.
One day while walking to school, Tomoya passes a young girl muttering quietly to herself. Without warning she exclaims "Anpan!" (a popular Japanese food) which catches Tomoya's attention. He soon discovers the girl's name is Furukawa Nagisa and that she exclaims things she likes in order to motivate herself. Nagisa claims they are now friends, but Tomoya walks away passing the encounter off as nothing.
However, Tomoya finds he is noticing Nagisa more and more around school. Eventually he concedes and befriends her. Tomoya learns Nagisa has been held back a year due to a severe illness and that her dream is to revive the school's drama club. Claiming he has nothing better to do, he decides to help her achieve this goal along with the help of four other girls.
As Tomoya spends more time with the girls, he learns more about them and their problems. As he attempts to help each girl overcome her respective obstacle, he begins to realise life isn't as dull as he once thought.

After declaring his love to Nagisa, they begin to have a close relationship. Their life together will be faced with unexpected challenges, as the truth behind the illusionary world and the city's legend come to light.

Each character really puts an impact to the story for the most part. How the story really catches you and gets you attached to certain characters. I found myself really liking Fuko for example and Kotomi. The story is full of ups and downs. Funny moments, suspense and very sad moments, especially in the after story. Art work The art work in Clannad is very visually appealing. It brings everything to life and really nice to watch and take in all the stunning visual work that has been done by the artist. Colors of the characters in my opinion fit who they are. The scenery in parts of this anime are breath taking. I know everyone would love it as much as I did. Characters As said above, each main character really grabs your attention and you get attached which will lead you through happy moments, funny and sad. It makes for a real tear jerker anime because of the story MIXED with the characters that have been placed in it. My favorite character was Fuko due to her strange behavior, her determination for her sister and the whole back story she had. Very interesting and got me instantly attached. Voice actors I think they were well played, since I watched this subbed like I do for all my animes. I thought the emotion they used behind each character was spot on and made the story that much better. It would likely be strange for them to get new actors for dubbed, but I haven't watched it dubbed (nor have I checked if it's available.) Ending The ending is fucking sad. That is all I can say about that. Watch it, after you watched Clannad of course and go through it all. You will be like "what in the fuck?!" Conclusion & Rating Overall, I think this was one of the most beauitful animes I have ever watched and pulled at my heart strings quite a bit. It was a roller coaster full of good moments, happy moments and of course sad moments. I would strongly reccomend this anime to anyone who wants to watch a great slice of life/romance anime. My overall rating is: 9.5/10 I won't say it's a 10 because nothing is perfect and it made me cry, so it loses points! RE: [Review] Clannad + Afterstory Review - Lumen - 12-21-2015 I'd hesitate to even give Clannad a 5/10, realistically I'd put it at a 3/10 for several reasons. The first being that it failed its own idea, caved in to fan-service, has mediocre animation and voice acting along with a story that makes next to sense unless you are a mindless fanboy/fangirl. Though each to their own opinion I guess. I just liked the characters and I love the type of animation they used, just like any other Key animation like Air, Kanon, etc. RE: [Review] Clannad + Afterstory Review - Lumen - 12-21-2015 (12-21-2015, 07:52 PM)Angelic Wrote: I always found with Clannad, you either like it or you don't. If I enjoyed something, I will just rate it higher, unlike people on MAL who rip into everything. There were parts I didn't like much with Clannad but I was satisfied after watching it, so to me that is all that matters. (Which is not what a review is.) First time I watched series like "Sword Art Online" it was okay to watch, however upon going over it again I notice more that I didn't the first time around. (Getting a more objective view, rather than subjective view) and my personal rating on the series fell to the ground. That is what a review is, what MAL does is review. They grind into everything, the good and the bad so that someone who reads the review can get a unbiased and objective view on the series before watching it themselves. RE: [Review] Clannad + Afterstory Review - nawafdevil - 12-23-2015 The only thing i dont understand in this anime is that afterlife(the actual after life with that robot ) . i mean thats totally out of contex RE: [Review] Clannad + Afterstory Review - Angelic - 12-23-2015 (12-23-2015, 08:06 PM)nawafdevil Wrote: The only thing i dont understand in this anime is that afterlife(the actual after life with that robot ) . i mean thats totally out of contex Here is my take on it... Spoiler:It is an alternative universe, that I made out from it. Nagisa's death caused such an emotional impact for Tomoya that all that was created, the robot being a light. Just my opinion. There are other things that people think it is, but I like to create my own as well. |
