How to chose a VPN - Captin_Lulzboat - 10-03-2015 From time to time I see lots of people asking for good free VPN services. What they don't realize is, these free VPN services are not actually free. They share your data with companies like google and others which pays for there service so its free for the user, but not his data. What does that mean? It means that everything you do under that VPN is 99% most likely logged, shared, and reviewed by major corporations. What should I do to stop this? Stop using free BS VPN services and start using a paid secure service. You cant put a price on your privacy and security. There are plenty of paid VPN services that are under $6 a month. Crypto storm and AIRVPN are two of my personal ones I use. The reason I have and still use these companies are because they do not log any user activity. They have servers outside of the US and UK (home of the NSA and GCHQ). Those two things alone are a home run. Crypto storm, deals with hash tokens. Every month, they send you a new token, which has to be hashed and used to get into there services. There is two reason why this is a great feature. One, you can buy these tokens off other people and use there service which adds almost complete anonymity to it. Since Crypto storm will have no ideas who is using the token, how can they report you or share your logs if governments ask? That's right, they will not be able to. Although, that's an amazing feature, its not for the average Joe who is not good with computers. Its not a log in and click your Server and your done. Its more technical but better in the end. AirVPN, the same people that brought you ipleak.org have there own VPN service. ipleak.org is used to check if your vpn service is leaking your real ISP info. This is a great tool to use when trying to stay anonymous. You can check if your leaking DSN info, IP info, webRTC ect. I visit this site every time I connect my PC to the internet. With that being said, AirVPN started as a project of a very small group of activists, hacktivists, hackers in 2010, with the invaluable (and totally free) help of two fantastic lawyers and a financing from a company interested in the project and operated by the very same people. AirVPN is a very user friendly service as well, log into the client panel, select your OS, Server and protocol and download the package for import into your Open VPN client. Now even though I suggested these two that does not mean you should take my word for it and trust me. It simply means you should do some research your self and look for things similar to these companies in terms of services they offer and protection you gain from using it. No logs, Servers outside of the US and UK and a good understanding of activist and hacktivist. RE: How to chose a VPN - s0ny - 12-14-2015 Great information, I usually connect to Switzerland or the Netherlands. You simply aren't safe with a free VPN... RE: How to chose a VPN - Buildoman - 12-14-2015 I use RA4W VPN and it's been fantastic so far. Would definitely reccomend it for anyone looking for a cheap VPN that's still anonymous and has port forwarding. |
