Don't worry, water doesn't expire. It's required that all bottled drinks must be marked with an expiration date of two years or less, so even though it'll be fine for years afterwards it has to have an expiration date to be legal to sell. Those laws changed though over the time and now it's not really required so much, but the water can also start to taste and smell bad after being in a plastic container for so long, hence a lot of manufactures still put expiration dates on them even when they're not mandatory, so the water's still safe to drink several years later, it just might smell and taste bad.

To sell products like that it has to have a expiration date by law.
It's not out of date, water cannot go out of date.
