Yes I used WordPress when I was messing around with making a website on my own server. WordPress is very easy to set up, it's quick and simple to make changes, and it's very easy to get a website running that looks great. WordPress is great for making a website that looks great and doesn't change very much. If you are an advanced user, or want your website to be dynamic and have a lot of intricate features then WordPress is not the best option. However if you don't know much about web development, then WordPress is great. It's also very easy to install tons of great plugins and themes. Finally, the WordPress community and support are top-notch, and you won't have trouble finding help for any of your issues.

Yeah, Basically to sum up what Jet said;
Wordpress is great for begginers as It offers a wide range of themes and plugins. Although it's mainly for blogs.
I had a forum which ran with Wordpress and IPB, but now I want to make a toplist for games I have to code it all which is a pain in the ass.

I am currently using wordpress for a project of mine that is going to be a directory as it is great to be honest. I bought a theme for it from themeforest and it works great as a content management system. No complaints at all
