Video game History Entry #1 - Personal_Person - 02-23-2013 Video game market crash of the early 80's
In the early 80's (arround 1981.) The video game market crashed unexpectedly, Arcades went under, and company's filed bankruptcy. How it Happened
So how could one of the biggest business's in the world go under? well in the 1870's Atari (one of the only BIG gaming company's) was flooding the market with half-assed, and shitily made games. But The tipping point was reached when Activision made the "ET" video game.ET
The ET game was a shit stain on the fabric of gaming. The game was given to one coder to make the game in 5 weeks time, so that the game could be rushed to the Christmas market. Supposedly it was 3 levels of absolute crap. so many people sent the cartridge's back to Atari, bringing the game industry to a standstill.Nintendo
Out from the ashes came a new company out of Japan, this company was Nintendo. in 1995 Nintendo released the NES, bringing the game market back to life. along with Nintendo came Atari and Sega, but they didn't stand the test of time like Nintendo did.I will be updating this with a new Entry tomorrow, as well for my Game review entry's which you can find here. http://www.creativegaming.net/showthread.php?tid=518 RE: Video game History Entry #1 - Box - 02-23-2013 You should try and continue this. In the late 70's and early 80's Atari was holding a video game competition for some prizes. The Prizes
There were 4 worlds based off of the four building blocks of matter earth, fire, water, and air. and a fifth prized where the last four winners would compete in a specially made game. The 4 different prizes were Earthworld: The Talisman was made of 18K solid gold, with 12 diamonds and the birthstones of the twelve Zodiac signs embedded in it, as well as a small sword made of white gold attached to the front. Fireworld: The Chalice was made of gold and platinum and was adorned with citrines, diamonds, green jade, pearls, rubies, and sapphires. Waterworld:The winner of this contest was supposed to receive the "Crown of Life," which was made of gold and encrusted with aquamarines, diamonds, green tourmalines, rubies, and sapphires. Airworld:The contest prize was a "Philosopher's Stone" encrusted with diamonds, emeralds, citrines, and rubies. The Final Prize "Sword of Ultimate Sorcery", a sword with a gold handle encrusted with jewels, and a gleaming pure silver blade which was valued at $50,000. The actual games
I am not going to explain the actual contents of the game's because they were so allusive and hard to explain. But here is a video instead. The video is "avgn swordquest" Wasn't that interesting? very elusive that air world game huh? Well back on track, where do you think the Sword and other items are? I would guess they've been melted down for money, but what do you think?
