  • Why do you think members go inactive and stop logging in?
  • What is the best way to get an inactive member active again?
  • Would you delete an inactive member?

1.- Because they don't find a reason to stay
2.- Offering something of his interest
3.- No, he's always welcome if he decides to come back

1.- You gave nothing uniqe and everything you have, another forum has better.
2.- Get something uniqe or a badass theme
3.- The fuck kind of question is that, no! Only if they never got activated and haven't logged in for a month.

  • 1. People go inactive and don't login mostly because the forum doesn't have what they need.
  • 2. Show them something that peeks their interest.
  • 3. I wouldn't delete an inactive member, the only people that might be considered for deletion would be people who haven't finished registering and haven't bothered to finish registration in a few months.

1. Because those members that went inactive had no incentive to remain active in the first place. Perhaps the forum you own is no different to any other forum out there, and perhaps it's a less active version of another, larger board out there with a much larger member-base. You probably don't offer anything unique to keep members enticed, or perhaps you're just an all-round dick which no-one wants to be around because you act like you're running a prison and don't show any signs of a personality.

2. Send out a mass-email to everyone who has registered on your board every time your site has major updates. This will entice inactive members to want to return to your board to view these changes first-hand and perhaps give them more of an incentive to remain active this time round. You could also send them an email informing them there is a contest going on, e.g. a posting contest, a referral contest etc.

3. The furthest I would go with an inactive account would be to allow another, active member to take their username. That would come down to how old the account is and how many posts it has, though. If the account was registered on the board for over a year and hadn't created a large amount of posts, then yes, I would consider allowing another member to take ownership over their username. I would send the inactive account an email address informing them of this account change and inform them of their new username, as well as allow them to either sign into the board through use of their username or email address, just in case they never received the email informing them of this change and didn't realize they had a different username - this means that they could still log-in through use of their email address, if they still remembered the email address associated with their forum account.

1. The forum is not unique, it's the same as all the other 100 forums around.

2. Enable E-Mail notifications and host giveaways, or community games so that the member can get to know others and form relationships on the forum.

3. I wouldn't delete the member as he or she could return at any given time, but changes may happen to the account, could be anything such as other members can take their username etc.

3 can result in loss of the account as they may not know.

That can be countered by an E-Mail notification that tells them due to inactivity on the forum, your username has been granted to someone else.

They can loose email though.

That's not the forums problem but theirs. If they really lose it they could create a new alias and message a staff member about their problem in the worst case scenario.
