Notebook Graphic Card - syazwan0913 - 03-26-2016 Can notebook graphic be upgraded? For example, nvidia gt920m to 940m? RE: Notebook Graphic Card - zorrophreak - 03-26-2016 There are devices that allow you to connect external power, and connect the container to the PCI-E port (usually forfeiting your Wi-Fi), then you put your full size graphics card in the dock. The main problem is that most notebook graphics cards are either integrated in the CPU or are still onboard. This is one a friend of mine used on his old Acer laptop and it worked, albeit clunky and cluttered as hell: http://www.amazon.com/Laptop-External-PCI-E-Graphics-Card/dp/B00Q4VMLF6 RE: Notebook Graphic Card - Nyx - 03-26-2016 Not possible, though as zorro said, you can get an external graphics card dock, but you have to have a full size graphics card to plug in. RE: Notebook Graphic Card - swatterhat - 03-26-2016 I think some new versions of MSI would allow you to upgrade GPUs. Well, possible. Just not for average users and an outright pain in the ass. RE: Notebook Graphic Card - zorrophreak - 03-28-2016 (03-27-2016, 01:06 PM)Oni Wrote: Well, possible. Well, yes possible for sure but considering its hard as hell to find any documentation on laptop components, I don't think you can actually order laptop GPUs unless you're a laptop manufacturer due to them being chips and easily ruined thus causing Nvidia to have to RMA it and I doubt OP could figure out how to replace it by just wingin' it even if he could get his hands on a compatible chip via robbery, I'd say it's pretty damn hard. Then again maybe you can buy them w/ an instruction manual somewhere online without getting scammed, I just haven't discovered the website yet. RE: Notebook Graphic Card - Oni - 03-28-2016 You're probably better off buying a new laptop (or possibly desktop, if you enjoy upgrading). If you're only switching between a 920M to a 940M, it's probably not worth the effort. Gpuboss says there's a 0.3 difference between those cards (on 1 to 10 scale). They're likely unavailable, because the average consumer is not capable. RE: Notebook Graphic Card - Nyx - 03-28-2016 (03-28-2016, 05:58 AM)Oni Wrote: Pretty much what I implied. Depends on the manufacturer. I only encountered parts once and I wasn't going to attempt it. |
